Next Stop on AASP Tour U.S. Open in Oceanside California
The U.S. Open Adaptive Surfing Championships will be held September 6th-10th at Oceanside Pier in Oceanside, California. This will be the third and final event of the 2023 AASP (Association of Adaptive Surfing Professionals) Tour.
The event will take place on the North side of Oceanside pier which traditionally offers up more opportunities for high scoring waves for the competitors than the south side. There will be the traditional nine categories for both male and female competitors including the following: Prone Assist, Prone Unassisted, Any Kneeling, Above Knee Stand, Below Knee Stand, Stand Upper Limb, Partial Vision, Blind No Vision and Waveski. There are separate categories in this event for men and women with no planned mixed competitors’ categories.
Registration for the AASP 2023 Tour U.S.Open Event
You can register for the third and final 2023 event at this link before August 28th. The cost is $200 per category and the total purse for the event is a staggering $30,000 in prizes for the finalists in the nine categories.
Previous events this year were held at Waikiki Beach in Hawaii and Costa Rica’s Boca Barranca. The second longest left in Costa Rica is a well-known world class break. Sixty competitors from nineteen countries rose to the occasion. Making it more impressive, the contest was part of the Back-to-Back which followed the Para Surf League Open Pro. Both contests happened the third week of June.
Contact the Association of Adaptive Surfing Professionals , the U.S. Open ASC committee or Stoke for Life for more information.
Please also reach out to the AASP if you can volunteer for the U.S. Open event on one or more days.
We look forward to the upcoming Oceanside event and seeing some of our favorite athletes catch some epic rides. The future of Para Surfing keeps getting more exciting. We are definitely along for the ride.
